As the Creative Director and Producer behind Visit Hull’s very first TV commercial, I had the pleasure of bringing a fresh and vibrant vision of the city to life. The ‘It Must Be Hull’ campaign aimed to showcase Hull’s unique charm and entice nearby residents to explore everything it has to offer.

Collaborating with the incredibly talented team at Nova Studios was essential to the success of this project. Their collective expertise – spanning musicians, journalists, artists, and creatives of every level – made them the perfect partner for filming and production. Their creative energy and attention to detail helped transform the concept into a polished and engaging final product.

CREATING THE CAMPAIGN

The campaign was produced as a Sky AdSmart advert targeting the Yorkshire region, a strategic choice to reach potential visitors just a short journey away. The ad focused on showing Hull at its finest, from its cultural hotspots to its vibrant local businesses.

As the Creative Director, I developed the taglines and visual identity to craft a cohesive and inviting message. From initial concept development to scriptwriting and directing the edit, I ensured every aspect of the project aligned with the campaign’s vision.

The TVC wasn’t just a standalone piece; it formed part of a broader 360 marketing campaign. I oversaw creatives distributed across various platforms, including social media channels, billboards, and digital advertising, all aimed at driving interest and excitement around the city.

DELIVERING A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN

Managing the TVC from conception through to delivery required careful coordination and precise attention to detail. After overseeing the final edit, I handled the clearance process and successfully delivered the advert to Sky for broadcast. The campaign’s success spoke for itself, receiving positive feedback and encouraging renewed interest in Hull as a travel destination.

In fact, the campaign performed so well that it was re-run the following season, proving its effectiveness and strong appeal to the target audience.
